In my early 20′s, someone, not a friend, just an acquaintance said: “No one really wants to hang around negative people. Try not to do that.” I had just told her about a friend of mine and something that friend was unloading or going through. I figured out way too late, most people can all only take so much negativity in their lives. It too, is a part of life but, try to surround yourself with those that choose to look for the good and positive and move in those directions. The negative person will generally want to keep you down in their foxhole. They need company so, without realizing it, they are constantly trying to cultivate it. I never really took the advice of this ‘acquaintance’, how could I? I’m too loyal of a friend for that. My friend had already been my friend for years. And who was this other person to tell me to look out, my friend was gonna bring down my life, way down. Oh and it DID happen. But, ‘Water under the bridge.’ That’s what life is… water, moving. Life is just that to me now. For the Twitter folks: #MovingOn #LikeWater Those are my favorite, personal hash~tags for all things ‘LIFE’. I can look back and let it all go now because there are all kinds of tradeoffs. I don’t regret like you may think I would. I have a big heart and I used it, gave it freely. I did feel hurt when it was taken for granted or disrespected. But, that was my fault. I had never learned to protect it with healthy boundaries. I was a co-dependent. Many of my good feelings came from making others, especially my mom, happy because then I felt like a good person. I’m not taking that away from myself. I’m still a good person and I didn’t have ulterior motives that I’m at all aware of, except, at times “self-preservation” when I was young. But, I’m still learning about boundaries. A number of years back, I was having a breakdown type of “I’m feeling the weight of the ENTIRE WORLD” in a giant EMPATHY FEELING like ANGELO, the savant, in the basement at THE CENTRE, from ’The Pretender’ television series. (Wow, I really am dating myself here) You youngin’s are going to have to YouTube it or Google Machine it or something or this post will get really … Continue reading →

I’m a fan of catch phrases. I suppose it is one of the reasons I enjoy reading books and watching movies. Even the best of them don’t always stick in my mind though. I have holes in the net meshed through my mind. But, so do the best fisherman’s nets, have holes in them, I mean. There must be a reason for it. I’ll surmise it is to let the crap you don’t really need or want, fall out so you don’t have to spend precious time and energy sorting it all out at the end of your already busy, hard-assed day. Of course, that means you’re bound to lose some good stuff, important stuff, some of that shit you really rather wouldn’t have lost. Maybe if you look in the crooks and crannies of your net you might find some bits and bobs of things you thought you lost. That’s always a bonus. But, sometimes you have to wait until you’re not so tired to even get around to it. One of my favorite sayings is from the ‘Taken’ series of movies, which stars one of my favorite actors, Liam Neeson. I love it when he says, “I have a very particular set of skills.” He says it very succinctly. And coupled with his accent, well I just find it marvelous! Say that last word in Billy Crystal’s character, Fernando’s accent. “Marvelous!” The whole reason I bring this quote up is I’m gaining a particular set of skills. So to speak, that is. I’ve been on a medically supervised diet. I’ve lost a crap ton of weight and I’m still losing. And I’m working on strength training now, because I need it. My core needs it, my spine needs it. Everywhere needs it. Anyway, I guess I’ve had this quote… this sentence, going through my head over and over now for a bit, because I’m actually gaining a “very particular set of skills!” And for a Rodeo Ninja, this couldn’t be cooler. Sometimes, when you get older and you’ve been battling health issues, mental and physical, you just tend to end up in the ‘give up zone’ for so long you forget what it feels like to feel, hmmm… THE OPPOSITE of that. If you think you’re stuck, you probably are. It takes a lot to un~stick too. A lot of time, energy, effort and support. I could write a … Continue reading →

I’m due some fun. Seriously. And then some. But I never thought it was coming. Not now anyway. Too much going on. Too much stress. Too many doctor appointments, all over again this year. And in she flew today. And the dust flew. The good kind. The sparkly, shiny, first-rate stuff that doesn’t send you running for your allergy meds. That’s not to say you won’t need a few tissues. I certainly did. I’m not used to such grand acts of kindness. Not for a long time, anyway. It felt special. Odd, but very, very marvelous. This happened… well, yesterday, although it still seems like today because I haven’t slept yet. I haven’t met a person like this. Hmmmm. I am trying to think. I honestly don’t think I have met a person like this, EVER. I used to be a person like this myself. That feels like a long time ago. It feels funny, different, being on the other end of something so unexpected. I am just overwhelmed with this sense of awe right now. I’ve never met another Fairy. Not a true Stress Fairy. Not one that knows instinctively what to do without a word and when to do it. It is different than a regular, generous person. You might not think so. You might think it is splitting hairs. It is all about the nuance though. Maybe you have to be a Fairy to know a Fairy? The awe has swirled around me since my first long encounter I had with this gal. And it was a recent one. Thus, my shock and dismay. I’m disarmed. I’m caught off guard. I’ve been touched by a Fairy! She seems like bubbles or laughter or a pile of kittens. I can’t explain all the things that come to mind that could describe someone I truly know nothing about. But, I do know she took a block of stress off my shoulders tonight for no other reason than, she felt like it. I did nothing to deserve it. She flew in and ‘Sprinkled me with FUN!’ Thank You! And thank you to all the Stress Fairies out there who wave their wands. I remember when I used to hold mine. It’s too heavy to lift anymore. I suppose it is a comfort to know that others pick up where you leave off. It is nice to know … Continue reading →
